One 60-day journey circling Australia was terminated days after the tragic passing of an older woman who was abandoned by the vessel on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been walking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the excursion for a break. The vessel left without her and went back after some time after the personnel became aware the woman was missing.

An extensive hunt located her remains the following day.

Officials are examining the incident, together with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator announced that passengers and personnel on the ship were informed that the continuation of the voyage had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and prior mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that passengers would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to arrange the return journeys of the individuals via private aircraft".

The vessel initially left Cairns on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the time of the elderly woman's passing. Lizard Island was the opening port on the journey.

The child of the elderly passenger said that her family was "stunned and saddened that the liner left Lizard Island after an planned outing without my parent".

Through her comments, she characterized her mother as an "energetic elderly person" who was a affiliate of a walking organization.
